Rhenus Türkiye obtains IATA certification for handling Dangerous Goods in air transport

.
  • Certification from the International Air Transport Association (IATA) enables Rhenus Türkiye handling of all nine Hazard Classes, incl. cosmetics, chemicals, vehicles and lithium battery cargo

  • Trained staff now authorised to sign Dangerous Goods Declarations and support customers with packaging and documentation

Rhenus Türkiye has successfully obtained the IATA certification for handling Dangerous Goods (DG) in air transport. This extended approval confirms that Rhenus Türkiye is not only authorised to receive and forward DG shipments, but also to prepare them for air transport – including classification, packaging, labelling, documentation and signing of Dangerous Goods Declarations for airfreight consignments. Handling will be carried out by the dedicated Airfreight Special Cargo Department, which specialises in DG operations and provides expert support throughout the preparation, safety compliance and transport process.

With this qualification, all nine Hazard Classes can now be handled across Rhenus Türkiye airfreight locations. Typical DG cargo currently managed includes perfumery products, chemicals, consumer electronics containing lithium batteries and vehicles – categories increasingly relevant in both export and import flows in Türkiye.

Expanded service capability for Dangerous Goods shipments

The certification enables Rhenus Türkiye to assist customers during the preparation of DG shipments, providing guidance on packaging, labelling and documentation. This support is especially in demand among wholesalers, cosmetics manufacturers, chemical producers and vehicle manufacturers, where compliance requires specialised expertise. Cosmetics companies, in particular, frequently request full-service support for Consumer Commodity shipments.

"For us, this certification marks an important step for our airfreight operations in Türkiye. It allows us to operate in a field where only few freight forwarders are qualified, giving us a clear advantage when it comes to Dangerous Goods compliance and customer support," says Mert Gedikç, Managing Director Rhenus Türkiye.

With this certification, Rhenus Türkiye further strengthens its role in a segment where compliance, safety and proper documentation are key to maintaining smooth air cargo flows.
